What is GSS-20?

The Global Standards Symposium (GSS) provides a high-level forum for discussion and coordination open both to members and non-members. This year’s GSS-20 will be chaired by H.E. Ms Nele Leosk, Ambassador-at-Large for Digital Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Estonia. The theme of GSS-20 is “International standards to enable the digital transformation and achieve the sustainable development goals (SDGs)”.

Where and when will the GSS-20 take place?

The Global Standards Symposium will be held in the International Conference Centre Geneva (CICG) in Geneva, Switzerland, on 28 February 2022.

Who can participate and attend GSS-20?

GSS-20 is open to all interested parties.

Steering Committee

A steering committee will be convened to help draft the report of the GSS conclusions to WTSA-20. The committee will work through electronic means and will hold conference calls as required.

Interpretation

GSS-20 will be held in English, with simultaneous interpretation into the other official languages of the Union (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish).

Previous GSS  

  • GSS-16 – The third Global Standards Symposium took place on 24 October 2016 in Hammamet, Tunisia, one day prior to WTSA-16. The event brought together thought leaders in the standardization sphere to discuss how standards efforts could best integrate the consideration of security, privacy and trust.​​​
  • GSS-12 – The second Global Standards Symposium was held on 19 November 2012 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It focused on the intersection of the ICT sector with other vertical sectors such as health care, utilities, and transport.
  • GSS-08 – The first Global Standards Symposium was held in Johannesburg, South Africa on 20 October 2008 prior to the World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA-08). The event examined global ICT standards challenges, such as accessibility, climate change and collaboration among standards development organizations.
